Analysis of Riau Traditional Games Based on Ethnomatematics in Developing Mathematical Capabilities of Elementary School Students

Abstract


The purpose of this study was to analysis of riau traditional games based on ethnomatematics in developing mathematical capabilities of elementary school students. This adopts qualitative methods of the type of realist ethnography revealed in the narrative. The data was collected through observations, interviews, and documentation. In the study, it was found that some difficulties are faced by students who are less able to connect the learning in the classroom with their environment so that teacher needs effort in packaging learning to improve student interest and motivation. Factors that make students difficult consist of internal factors (motivation and self-nature of students) and external factors (the use of learning approaches/strategies, media and learning resources that arouse student interest). Whereas teacher was found to connect the mathematic learning with traditional game pacu jalur as one of Riau culture.
